Zadar County – Tourist Board

The Zadar region occupies the central area of the Adriatic Sea in the south of the Republic of Croatia. Croatia is Mediterranean country located in central Europe and the Western Balkans. Zadar is the centre of the region, where the 3 000-year-old city was once the capital of Dalmatia from the 7th century to the end of the Second World War. Zadar’s rich cultural history and architecture has been influenced by the Byzantine, Turkish, Croatian-Hungarian, Venetian, and French and Austrian empires.

The weather on Croatian coast

The Dalmatian coast has a typically Mediterranean climate with long hot summers and mild winters. Rainfall is generally moderate year round towards the north, but the generally the south follows a Mediterranean dry summer and wet winter pattern.

Summer-time (June to September) is the most popular time to visit Zadar as the climate is most suitable. Summers along the coast and in the islands can experience 10 to 12 hours of sunlight per day and temperatures ranging between mid to high 20 degrees celsius, occasionally reaching temperatures above 30 degrees celsius in the height of summer. Croatia has low humidity, so the heat is bearable even in the scorching sun. However, you are always in close proximity to cool off in the crystal waters of the Adriatic sea.
